By Bill Reiner, CFP®, ChFC®

2020 represents my 25th year as a financial advisor. It has been an interesting year reflecting on my career and how it has evolved over that time. Many of us grow up learning what we are good at and what we enjoy doing with our time. If we’re lucky, our skills and passions line up and we have the privilege of experiencing a fulfilling career. That’s exactly how I found my way into the financial industry. I looked at my three passions, finances, entrepreneurship, and serving others, and found an ideal fit as a financial advisor. Twenty-five years have passed, and I am still thankful I chose this career. What is interesting, however, is how differently I spend my days now than how I envisioned them so many years ago.

Getting Started

When most folks think of a financial advisor, they think of the large “Wall Street” brokerage firm. Advisors dressed for success, spending their days on the phone talking to clients about market movements. My start was very similar. Thankfully, early on I steered away from the transactional nature of the markets and began to focus on financial planning for my clients. I began to build my practice by providing independent, objective financial advice to help my clients achieve their financial goals. I obtained my CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ (CFP®) practitioner and Chartered Financial Consultant® (ChFC®) designations. In 2005, I left the “Wall Street” crowd and joined the “Main Street” crowd when I founded Reiner Financial Group.

My Career Today – Different, Yet Better

Today, as a CPF® Practitioner, I run an independent, fee-based financial planning firm in Doylestown, Pennsylvania. My days look very different from what I envisioned when I entered the business in 1995. Gone are the days of the frantic Wall Street environment. Now, day in and day out, I listen, I educate, and I serve my clients. Those three activities would not have made my list of expected job responsibilities when I considered this career 25 years ago. But I am so grateful that all three are now part of my daily work.

The Best Part

I love what I do every single day. Even though there can be challenging times working in the financial world, as you can imagine, the relationships with my clients and my team at Reiner Financial Group are worth it. It remains extremely rewarding work. Some days I get to share the good news when a client is able to retire. On other days I am guiding their transition from the workforce into the new world of retirement. Learning about how our clients will  spend their time after their working days are complete also remains a joy. One client became a wildlife photographer; one is writing a novel; and many others are pursuing volunteering and second careers. I could argue it feels just as fulfilling for me as it does for a client when they experience a successful retirement.

Where Are You?

Now that you know a bit about me, I’d love to hear your story. What are your retirement dreams? What challenges do you currently face, and how can I help you get there? Maybe you’re an existing client  and it’s been awhile since we discussed your dreams.  Maybe you are  just now ready to work with an advisor who is as committed to your goals and dreams as you are. Or maybe you would like a second opinion to ensure your plan is still on track. Regardless of where you are in your planning, reach out to schedule a consultation.
